Demetria Gilkey

Hello there...I'm Demetria!

About me

Who I am NOW...

Hello there! I’m Demetria and I am a Certified Christian Life Coach, Licensed Hairstylist, Beauty Consultant, Speaker, and Author.  Wooo! I think I got it all out! I am based in Louisville, Kentucky, and I am married to my college sweetheart, Aaron. We met at Western Kentucky University. Go TOPS! I am also a first-time mom to a beautiful, full of life, little girl named Bellamy! We are truly three peas in a pod! I have been a licensed hairstylist since 2012 and I own a salon suite called L.U.S.H. by Demetria, where you will love your silky hair. While I am behind the chair, I provide amazing hair transformations on my salon guests, and love on them too! I love to write, and I am also an author of two books. The first one is called, THRIVE: Your three-step guide to creating your fearless and confident life, and Lessons Learned: A Woman’s Devotional for Living a Peaceful and Joyous Life.

I started my business and established this website because I had a desire to honor my purpose and share as much information and inspiration to women all over the world about, beauty and wellness. I think women are the strongest people in the world, know how to get stuff done, raise families, so on and so forth. I also think because of our strong abilities and numerous responsibilities, that we also need and deserve extra support, love, and inspiration, which is also why I have created this digital website. Listen, I have worked hard to get where I am, made mistakes, and enjoyed great success, but if you were to meet me in 2008, I can tell you that I was in a different headspace. Here’s my story.

I had my life planned out...or so I thought!

My initial life plan was honestly unrealistic and a fantasy too! You know how people ask you, what do you want to be when you grow up, and most kids don’t know, well I did. I had made up in my mind that I was supposed to “be married, a successful attorney, live in a mansion, and have three kids,” by 25! What?! Who comes up with this crazy stuff? Well, I did! There’s a saying that goes, “if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans!”

Anyways, I didn’t get into law school when I graduated college. I was devastated for years. I questioned my worth, and walked around for a long time discouraged and disappointed.  I tried to figure out who in the world I was. I then accepted a job in Corporate America, moved up the ranks fast, and still felt unfulfilled. I was miserable I tell you! I was constantly searching for the missing puzzle piece in my life. I would enroll, start, and stop in programs, question who I was multiple times a month, etc. I would sit and watch other people be successful, be promoted, win in life, while I felt stuck in the same spot.

Finally, I decided to take a huge leap of faith!

Despite everyone thinking that I had lost my mind, I decided to enroll in cosmetology school. I had always thought about doing but always felt like it wasn’t good enough either. What’s funny is, when I was a little girl, I used to play “beauty salon,” and my mom even bought me mannequin doll heads for Christmas! I always loved everything related to beauty. I read beauty books by makeup legends like Bobbi Brown and stayed stocked up on Lancome Juicy Tubes! (Am I telling my age or what?!)

I graduated from Paul Mitchell here in Louisville, Kentucky, and it was one of the proudest moments of my life. I even received many awards post-graduation, and accomplished goals such as becoming an in-salon educator, and writing for beauty magazines, etc., Surprisingly, after all of this success, I still would not accept my greatness, as a woman, as a stylist, as a business owner. I still did not feel “good enough.”

Until finally, I woke up.

I realized that a career title does not make me Demetria. I had to do some heavy soul searching, praying, journaling, etc., and I finally arrived at the conclusion that God desired for me to walk in a path that He designed just for me and to help other women to be all that He has called them to be. Just because I wasn’t the attorney, did not mean that I was less than a woman, a person, or “not good enough.” I believe when God closes a door, that He has something greater in store for you, and He has a plan for your life.

The Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11 confirms that! Life is sooo short, I know it’s a cliché, but it really is. I cannot believe that I am in my late 30s with a daughter and amazing husband. I am thankful for lessons learned in my life thus far, and I am optimistic about what’s to come as well. In 2020, I decided to pursue my master’s degree in Theology and learn more about my faith, Jesus, the Bible, and life. I graduated in 9 months! How about that! And in 2023, I received my certification in Christian life coaching. And officially, as a life coach, I help other women who are dealing with beauty and wellness challenges.

And so, here I am today, a life coach, and more.

I believe that God is calling me “higher” to do great things and use my voice in multiple ways for inspiration. I have officially accepted my calling that God has on my life, to inspire, encourage, inform, educate, and uplift women all over the world. It is my passion to help women face and overcome their fears, accomplish their goals, activate their faith, amplify their confidence, affirm their beauty, walk boldly in their purpose, radiate and glow greatness! I am so excited to serve in this capacity.

So, to the woman reading this, I personally welcome you to my blog, my life, coaching and consulting programs, etc. May every single word on this website touch your heart and inspire you to be your best self.
